A recent security issue and how we handled it
Published 22 October 2026
The short version
A serious security problem was recently found in some software that PagePlay uses to run your website. This was a big, worldwide issue affecting millions of websites, not just PagePlay. Nothing bad happened to your website or your information. We acted quickly to keep everything safe, and the problem is now fully fixed.
What happened
Your website is built and hosted on PagePlay. Behind the scenes, PagePlay uses a widely used piece of software called PHP to make websites work. PHP is used by millions of websites all over the world.
The people who look after PHP found a serious weakness in it that could, in theory, be misused. Because so many websites rely on PHP, this affected businesses and organisations everywhere. We were told about it as soon as it was discovered.
What we did straight away
A proper fix for PHP wasn’t ready yet, so we followed all the safety steps recommended by the experts while we waited for it. This made sure the weakness couldn’t be used against your website in the meantime.
Why file and photo uploads were switched off
As part of these safety steps, we turned off the ability to upload files and photos to your website. This was from 7am on Wednesday 21 October until 11am on Thursday 22 October. You may have seen a message about this in the toolbar at the top of your screen. This was a precaution, and nothing was wrong with your existing files or photos.
Fixing the problem
As soon as the fix for PHP was released, we put it in place within minutes. We then tested everything carefully to make sure your websites were working as they should.
Back to normal
Once we were happy that everything was safe and working, we switched file and photo uploads back on and updated the toolbar message. You don’t need to do anything. Your website is safe, and everything is working as normal.
